Success Stories

Our Programme

Braille Press converts books in E-text format, embossesand makes books in Arabic Braille or English Braille which is accessible for persons with Visual Impairment.

The Braille Press has significantly grown from small facility with a simple Braille Embosser to today’s full-fledged Braille Press. The best technologies are imported and installed in Braille Press from different part of the world, and the best brands of embossers are used for braille book production.

The books of the blind people at the Institute have gone through various stages since its inception in 1974. In its first stage, the books were printed in the printing presses of the Regional Office of the Middle East Blind Committee in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia when the Institute was affiliated with the Regional Office.

The Institute's administration began to seriously consider providing printing presses to print the books and examinations of the student while the teachers at the Institute relied on themselves to print the books they needed in the educational process. They printed the book page with the Perkins machine and then copied these pages thermoforming thermometer with the number of students in each class, and then combine these copied pages into files that are then distributed to students. This process was consuming time and effort from teachers who were playing a dual role: education and printing.

Start of incorporation The idea of establishing the printing presses came to the institute's great need to adopt the institute in the printing of textbooks. The Institute purchased small printing presses, set up a printing section and began to print its books at the same institute, albeit with less quality and readiness, but it met the needs of the students before the school time exceeded their need. This stage marked the beginning of the Institute's independence from other printing institutions that had been relied upon in earlier stages.

The printing press continued its development at the Institute with medium-sized printers such as the Index x44 printer, and the EVEREST printer at a stage of development in the printing press. At another stage, the institute developed and purchased larger printing presses to meet the student's need for books and the speed of delivery of books. 4WAVE You have overcome many of the difficulties that the institute faced to print books.

The printing press continued its development until the Ministry of Education was pleased to provide the latest printing press at the level of the Arab world to print books in Braille and is characterized by a high card that meets the need of the Institute and the schools of integration are multiple and differing in different Governorates of the Kingdom.

Stages of printing: -
The process of linguistic audit, review, coordination, division and image harmonization. The printing press is divided into two sections for printing books and the other section for packing books.
Printing - The Institute's Braille printing department pays great attention to the request, where it prints all of their courses for students who are blind in Braille from books, notes and examinations.

Dissemination of culture
The importance of the printing press is to spread the culture and provide Braille books for the blind to each reader and open the horizons of culture to the blind to familiarize them with everything that is new, so as to reduce the existing gap through the availability of books printed Braille with their counterparts visible.

Difficulties Facing Braille Printing: -
One of the difficulties facing the printing press is that the printing process goes through precise stages and the printing of the blind books is expensive and expensive compared to the regular books due to the quality of the printing and the papers used, as well as the lack of quality paper suitable for printing in the local markets, which has to be imported from abroad. .

The blind person needs a special approach that suits him in the following rationales:

1. The order of subjects according to priority for the blind user, where the trainer begins by identifying the parts of the computer, giving him the opportunity to examine them with his hands and identify their places, and then move to the definition of the cables connected to the electricity and speakers (speakers) and then to identify the USB ports for the delivery of the tool Protection and so on ... dropping what the trainee does not need, such as the chapter on the painter's program, and postponing what is not as important as editing the pictures so that they are not given more importance than their size.
2. Rely on the keyboard in the implementation of commands and the operation of functions and to perform navigation and transition and the implementation of various applications as possible, because the blind trainee cannot deal with the "mouse", which is usually used by the trainer when explaining the various applications of computer trainees from the sight.
3. Supplying the blind user correctly with the display, which is a completely different picture from the screen reader, which only reads items under the cursor.
4. Nvda Screen Reader: A free, open-source screen reader that supports both audio and Braille technologies, works in the Windows environment with its various versions, and enables users to handle many applications running under the system as text processors and players Audio, web browsers, e-mail readers, and many, many other daily and advanced applications and applications.
5. Data entry, coordination, classification, arrangement and modification, and even comparison and preservation in a manner that allows retrieval and utilization of them when needed.
6. Expanding the circle of human communication and knowledge exchange through the global information network in addition to local networks, thus achieving cultural integration and fruitful cooperation.

Physical education is important for all students including those who are blind or visually impaired. Children who are visually impaired consistently exhibited lower levels of fitness than their sighted peers. Keeping this in mind, The Saudi Bahraini Institute for the Blind has arranged a well-equipped gymnasium with well-designed games, activities and exercise for the children and physical education program is included in the standard curriculum.

Being blind or visually impaired doesn’t mean one has to live a sedentary life! There are countless activities people with vision loss can and do participate in. In order to make the gymnasium accessible to students, some may require modifications or special equipment, while others can be done with minimal or no assistance or adaptation. Students participate in common group games with beeping balls or balls with bells, beeping goal posts, beeping bases or radios to locate targets. The more physically active individuals are, the more easily they can move through activities of daily living. As the activities of daily life become easier to manage, the quality of a person’s life improves.
